Helen D. Neighbors, a Partner in the Firms Washington, DC office, is an experienced civil litigator providing a broad spectrum of legal services to clients over the past 19 plus years. She has successfully defended clients, both individuals and companies, in all facets of construction litigation, medical malpractice, professional liability, premises liability, intentional torts, property and casualty claims, and motor vehicle accidents. In addition, Ms. Neighbors has also advised both individuals and insurance carriers regarding insurance coverage disputes, prepared declaratory judgment actions to determine the existence of coverage, and bad faith. Ms. Neighbors has also represented clients in Lanham Act and Trademark Infringement cases.
Ms. Neighbors has defended both medical providers and assisted living facilities in negligence and wrongful death actions. She has also appeared before the Virginia Board of Dentistry on behalf of clients facing disciplinary actions.
Ms. Neighbors has defended architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, owners, and suppliers in a full range of cases from construction site accidents, construction defects, design defects, delay and disruption of schedule claims. Ms. Neighbors has also conducted accident investigations on behalf of clients and assisted in preparation of accident reports for various governmental entities.
Ms. Neighbors also advises and defends employers on a broad spectrum of employment issues including EEOC complaints, sexual harassment, ADA claims, defamation, breach of contract, and other state and federal law claims. Ms. Neighbors assists clients in preparing employee handbooks and policy and procedure manuals, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.
Ms. Neighbors has also defended clients facing Lanham Act claims involving Trademark infringement, Trademark dilution, and false advertising claims.
Prior to obtaining her law degree, Ms. Neighbors worked in the insurance industry adjusting claims and supervising claims adjusters. Upon earning her law degree, she was asked to return to the insurance industry, this time as in-house counsel, preparing compliance memorandum on legislative issues, preparing insurance policies and advising regional offices on proper claims handling.
In addition to holding a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, Ms. Neighbors holds a bachelor of arts degree in Communication and a minor in Spanish from the University of Texas at Arlington. Ms., Neighbors fluently reads, writes and speaks Spanish. She also holds a master’s degree in business management from Johns Hopkins University.
Ms. Neighbors is a member of the bars of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. She is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the District of Maryland and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
