Carrie is a partner in the Maryland and D.C. offices of Kiernan Trebach LLP. She has 31 years of experience litigating civil cases, with a focus on the defense of cases of alleged healthcare medical malpractice, throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Carrie has defended hospitals, hospital systems, ambulatory surgery centers, nursing homes, home health agencies, assisted living facilities, various types of practice groups, physicians, physicians’ assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers in a large variety of claims of medical negligence, including claims of birth-related injuries (cerebral palsy, persistent pulmonary hypertension, other brain injuries, shoulder dystocia, fetal laceration, and fetal demise); improperly performed surgeries (neurosurgical, transplant, thoracic, orthopedic, and general surgery); other surgical complications such wrong-side surgeries and anesthesia complications; failure to diagnose cancer; stroke diagnosis and treatment; improper anticoagulation; misinterpretation of imaging studies; administration of improper medication; administration of excessive medications; failure to obtain informed consent; psychological malpractice; epiglottitis; vaccine-related injuries; improper neonatal care; inappropriate use of anesthesia; improper monitoring; retained foreign bodies; hospital falls; decubitus ulcers; failure to communicate; and other injury and wrongful death actions.

Carrie currently serves as President of the MD-DC Society for Healthcare Risk Management (MD-DC SHRM), an affiliate of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM). She also serves as Co-Chair of MD-DC SHRM’s Legislative Committee, helping to track legislation affecting healthcare providers in the region.

Carrie has served as an invited speaker for the American Society for ASHRM, MD-DC SHRM, the District of Columbia Voluntary Bar Association, and various hospitals and insurers. She has reported cases from both the Maryland Court of Appeals and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

Carrie received her Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from Syracuse University in 1987, and her Juris Doctor degree, with honors, from The National Law Center at George Washington University, in 1991. Before entering private practice, Carrie served as law clerk to the Honorable James P. Salmon, Judge of the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland. Carrie has been with Kiernan Trebach for the past 25 years. She holds the highest peer review rating issued by Martindale Hubbell - AV (“Very High to Preeminent” Legal Ability, “Very High” Ethical Standards).

Carrie is a member of the Bars of the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the District of Columbia and Maryland, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She has been admitted Pro Hac Vice in federal court in Pennsylvania and commonwealth court in Virginia.
