William H. White Jr. is a Partner based in the Washington, D.C. office and has a broad range of experience in a variety of practice areas, but he is especially skilled in managing complex, multiparty lawsuits and in using jurisdictional, venue and other procedural mechanisms to ensure that cases are litigated in the most appropriate forum. Mr. White has been recognized as a Top Rated Lawyer in Washington, D.C. by Lexis Nexis Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. White began practicing law in Florida and, while he has devoted more time to his practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia over the past 20 years, he maintains active bar status in Florida and New Jersey. Mr. White has also actively litigated matters around the country as pro hac vice counsel, including cases in state and federal courts in New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Illinois, Ohio, Missouri, Tennessee, North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, Nevada, California, Arizona, Virginia and Washington. Mr. White has also handled numerous appeals in both state and federal appeals courts.

Mr. White is experienced in insurance, contract, and other commercial matters, as well as in personal injury, professional errors and omissions, and professional malpractice disputes. He devotes a significant portion of his practice to counseling and representing insurers in coverage matters. He has defended numerous attorney malpractice claims as well as construction defect claims against architects and engineers. Mr. White is also experienced in large-scale products liability and negligence cases, particularly in situations where the alleged wrongdoing affects multiple customers or otherwise implicates a company’s overall way of doing business. He has defended a large cheese producer in a series of food-borne illness suits, a large dialysis service provider in a series of matters challenging the quality of the services provided, a large transit agency in mass tort event, and class actions arising from alleged debt collection statutory violations and products liability, among other matters.

Recent notable matters include:

  • Representing an excess insurer with respect to a large-scale bankruptcy resulting from thousands of tort claims being asserted against the policyholder
  • Representing an primary insurer of a developer of a mixed-use development involving a substantial environmental remediation
  • Defending a hotelier from claims involving personal injuries at overseas hotels
  • Representing an excess DCIP insurer in a catastrophic personal injury matter
  • Representing an excess CCIP insurer is a significant construction defects matter
  • Defending a general liability insurer against a challenge to a limited coverage extension endorsement

Mr. White is a court-appointed mediator for the Circuit Mediation Program of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, and he also mediates cases privately for parties. Mr. White is fluent in Spanish and often assists in communicating with both factual and expert witnesses with respect to their involvement in the case.
