|Carrie Stein Earns Defense Verdict on Behalf of Hospital and Surgeon|
Carrie Stein and nurse paralegal Tonia Mauck obtained a defense verdict in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, Maryland on behalf of a hospital and a general surgeon. The plaintiff claimed that the surgeon, who was treating her anal wound, failed to diagnose recurrent vulvar cancer that had spread to the anus. Plaintiff required an extensive surgery to remove the lower part of her large bowel and internal reproductive organs, and now has a permanent colostomy. Plaintiff claimed that had the defendant surgeon biopsied the wound when he first began treating her, the surgery could have been avoided and her life expectancy would have been higher. After a 6 day trial, the jury determined – in 45 minutes – that the surgeon had complied with the standard of care.
