Jessica is a Partner in the firm’s Virginia offices. She is an experienced trial attorney who practices in all aspects of healthcare defense. She focuses her practice on the defense of individual health care providers, dentists, hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities at all stages of litigation. Jessica has experience as both primary and secondary counsel, and has obtained defense jury and bench verdicts in multiple jurisdictions throughout Virginia, earning her recognition in Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s annual survey of “Largest Med Mal Defense Verdicts in Virginia.” Jessica has been recognized as a Top-Rated (AV) Lawyer by Lexis Nexis Martindale-Hubbell.
Jessica is also well-versed in the fields of professional liability, legal malpractice and premises liability, as well as general tort litigation defense. Her practice also includes frequent counsel on risk management issues and State Board Licensing matters. She has lectured hospital risk managers, physicians, practice managers, nurses, and other attorneys on healthcare topics and has published articles in Hampton Roads Physician Magazine as well as the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys Journal. - Successfully obtained Summary Judgment on behalf of an individually named nurse defendant during trial before a jury at the close of Plaintiff’s case-in-chief in a fall case at a skilled nursing facility.
- Motion to strike Plaintiff’s case in a medical negligence wrongful death matter in defense of a psychiatrist and practice, affirmed on appeal by the Supreme Court of Virginia.
- Several Defense verdicts in alleged premises liability cases resulting in significant injury requiring surgery in the defense of healthcare facilities and a health club.
- Two Defense verdicts in decubitus ulcer, wrongful death cases in the defense of healthcare facilities.
- Defense verdict in an alleged missed diagnoses of c. diff, wrongful death case in defense of a healthcare facility.
