Experience

Michael M. Hicks is a Partner Emeritus of the Firm. He spent thirty years litigating and trying matters in the areas of medical malpractice, toxic tort, professional liability, product liability, real estate disputes and contracts.

Mr. Hicks litigated and tried numerous matters in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida and federal bankruptcy courts. He also argued numerous appeals before a number of state tribunals and federal circuit courts.

Mike served as lead counsel on various cases involving professional negligence and lawyer misconduct; he routinely handled complex litigation involving retailer liability and toxic torts. In litigating these cases, Mr. Hicks routinely worked with the leading national and international scientific experts in the fields. He represented a number of nationally renowned medical malpractice insurers in difficult matters involving their insured on issues involving psychiatric malpractice, cardio-thoracic surgery, and neurosurgery.

Mike was a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland Bars.  He is a former member of the Board of Governors of the District of Columbia Bar, a past-president of the Washington Bar Association and member of its Hall of Fame. He has served with distinction on the Frederick B. Abramson Memorial Foundation as well as an assortment of District of Columbia and federal court bar committees. Mike was also a professorial lecturer in law on the faculty of The George Washington Law School.

Mike received his B.A. from Haverford College in 1978 and his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School in 1981.
